Today was not a good day – on many fronts.
For ME, it was a day of dealing with employee problems. It seemed every single employee either had a problem with another employee or if they didn’t, I had a problem with them.
So when I got home, I was looking forward to the serenity of walking the dogs. My husband was home as well, so it was going to be a great chance to walk the dogs and catch up and strategize.
For LATTE, quite another story!
We saddled up Latte and Emma who were more than eager to go on their precious daily walk and walked out the front door and over to our little neighborhood park.
We got no further than to the edge of the park, when a little terrier tore toward Latte and started barking and nipping at him. Latte just looked at me and did what he could to get away from that little crazy dog. The dog’s owner finally managed to get to him and get him on leash (ours were on leash the whole time) just in time before Teddy, the terrier, would start toward Emma, who just shrugged away.
We started walking away when we realized that Latte had gotten nipped. He had a bleeding wound the size of a quarter on his hind right quarter. The poor baby! I walked right back to the lady and got her name and number. She was as shocked as I was and offered to pay for any vet bills.
So … off to the vet it was as we had just about half an hour before closing. They were able to staple it up and provide some pain relief and antibiotics for Latte. They also found that Teddy was a customer of theirs and were able to send the bill to the nice lady directly.
What all of this means is that because this owner did not leash her 18 month old terrier who decided to take on two greyhounds, she incurred a $250 vet bill, I spent an hour at the vets and countless time monitoring Latte and administering pain pills and antibiotics. It also means that Latte can’t go on playdate or run (something greyhounds LOVE to do) for 10-14 days and that he can only go on controlled leash walks during this time. That, of course, if the staples hold. If not, he will have to go and get stitches during general anaesthesia which is always a scary thing for greyhound owners.
Oh, and did I tell you that I need to go back to my store and likely fire an employee?
It must be a full moon!!!
